The Gut-Brain Axis and Microbial Biofilm-Associated Proteins: Driving Neurodegeneration in Parkinson’s
Parkinson’s disease pathology is increasingly linked to the gut-brain axis, with alpha-synuclein aggregation believed to originate in the enteric nervous system and spread to the brain. Gut microbiome dysbiosis and its biofilm-associated proteins (BAPs) act as “transmissible catalysts” that initiate and propagate this neurodegeneration through cross-seeding.
